Valentines Rant….
Yeah another rant, but what the hell it’s winter and that’s all I seem able to do these days!
So its that bloody love fever again. I must say it’s been quiet on the telly ads given that everyone is running around like chickens panicking over the ‘crunch’, but the world of web is prolific as ever and it’s making me sick. My hotmail ads, gmail ads, blog reader, funny forwards have been innundated with valentines crap and it’s just BORING!
Spend money wisely I say. Valentine’s Day and Christmas in the west have two things in common, they are both designed to give you some social guilt about either being single or not giving a gift and they are both designed to make you buy crap. Don’t fall for the hype! Resist!
One interesting blog post I did come across comes from Vera Ezimora. I quite agree with her Dear Saint Valentine, letter. A quote from her very long but entertaining post:
“That being said, I would prefer spending Valentine’s Day loving and being loved. The alternative is organising and attending a solo event which will be called the Singles Awareness Conference – just in case you have forgotten you are single, let this day serve as a reminder.“
So, my plans for this Saturday? Watching the entire first series of The Wire!

As an aside, I am heading to the London Twestival tonight, I think it’s high time I did some more geek blogging so I’ll be giving you the downlow on this now very commercialised geek fest!
Hear, hear. I might be married, but I’m still going to boycott Valentines. Will someone please tell me what is so romantic about being pressured to buy into a day that commertially says you must do something “special”. I’d far rather do something on a completely random day – when it’s least expected, a genuine surprise and doesn’t need to be booked months in advance to avoid the rush.
Exactly romance is the little touches at the most unexpected times. It is not a predefined, cliched rip off.
One day I’ll be boycotting it too…right now I think it falls in the category of not doing anything because I’m single! lol!
P.S. It’s been ages! I’m well overdue a visit to you guys! 😉
Soooo…
How did it go?
I don’t mean to rub it in, but mine went great! Alright, fine, I mean to rub it in. Hehehehe.
@Vera lucky girl 😉
I had a fab night, it included wine and taking the match.com personality test! lol!
